“Parents receive the pagers to take with them, giving them the assurance they will be notified if any problems with their children arise so they can respond immediately. It gives people a lot of security and peace of mind.”
Berta Pitzer, director of Christian education and congregational life
Lampstand Church is a presbyterian church in Decatur, Illinois with more than 350 members. Being an active church in the community with such a large ministry, Director of Christian Education and Congregational Life Berta Pitzer’s job is to ensure that the daily operations run smoothly.
Lampstand Church has been an LRS customer since 2008. They purchased their first paging system to equip their nursery staff with the right tools to provide a safe and secure environment for children while parents comfortably observe the service.
Lampstand Church gives parents the option to take their infants or small children into the sanctuary during service, or drop them off in the nursery before the service. For the parents who opted for the nursery, the issue of contact arose. The nursery is located approximately 75 feet from the sanctuary, making it difficult for the staff to alert parents if they needed to come tend to their children during the service. Further, there is a legal requirement that there must be one adult for every four small children. To avoid having staff leave the nursery and then having to search for parents in the large congregation, Pitzer decided that there needed to be a way to communicate with parents that wouldn’t endanger the children or disrupt the service experience.
After Lampstand Church deployed the LRS guest pagers in their nursery, they noticed an increase in efficiency and an improved experience for parents during services. The communication between nursery staff and parents was seamless.
“Nursery workers realize they are the front line in giving the first impression for guests who come sign in and register their child for the nursery. Parents receive the pagers to take with them, giving them the assurance that they will be notified if any problems with their children arise so they can respond immediately. It gives people a lot of security and peace of mind,” said Pitzer.
According to Pitzer, parents are able to enjoy a better worship experience because they are able to pay full attention to the message. No more having to worry that they won’t be notified if an issue with their child arises, or that they might miss the notification. “Parents say that being able to stick the pager in their pocket or purse and know they’ll be notified without being distracted by it is a huge comfort, said Pitzer.
Nursery attendants feel more confident too. “There’s never any question or worry that a parent won’t receive the page, and gone is the need for attendants to leave the nursery, making it safer for everyone,” said Pitzer.
Parents are able to register their infants or children with the nursery and attend the service without having to worry.
Using the pagers has allowed staff the ability to stay in the nursery to tend to the children. It has also eliminated the need to search for parents when an issue arises with the child.
Nursery staff feels confident that the pages are reaching the parents, regardless of how far away the parents might be. Staff also say that the system is low-maintenance and very easy to use.
